I got to see Elton John finally for the first time in my life in Ann Arbor. The story about this though is one that I will remember for a lifetime!
I heard that Elton John was first coming to Grand Rapids in October and I missed it! I was so depressed. Then I heard that he was coming to Ann Arbor. I tried to get tickets at first but I couldn't get through so i didn't! It was a shame! Then I posted in the 22nd Row Mailing list that I coun't get tickets then a good friend of mine, Matthew Burg, told me that he had two extras that he was getting from a friend and he could send the two extra to me. They cost me $80 dollars a piece. However, I found a friend at my school, Steve Gerwolls, who would go with me so he bought one. We took off to go see Elton John in Ann Arbor on April 25th. We drove to Ann Arbor, (quite a way - 2 hours or more) only to see that Elton was sick and couldn't put on the show. I was depressed again. But we were determined...
So we drove back to Ann Arbor after school on Wednesday April 29th. Something was missing. Sure we were still happy to go, but it was not as an amazing feeling as it was just three days before... until we got there and saw the sign that said that Elton was there. It came back... and even better than ever. We got out of the car and walked up to the arena. We walked in and saw the stage. I was still standing beside myself. It was real. We were really there...
We went to our seats... which were ROW 30 SECTION 12. We sat down and looked at the programs that we had bought. As we were talking and looking a man walked up to us and said, "Are you guys big Elton John fans?" We were like, "D'uh." "Ya we are." Then I said, "Ya, but we're kinda annoyed that we payed $80 bucks for tickets like these... but any tickets are good for an Elton John concert." Then the guy said, "How would you like it if I gave you guys front row seats?" Then my heart stopped. Steve and I looked at each other and thought, "Is this guy for real?" Then he pulled out a wad of tickets and handed them to us! My gosh I will never forget the feeling I had...
After Steve and I crapped our pants, mildly speaking, we made it to our seats in the front row. I was shivering. Then the lights went down, then I saw Elton on stage. Five feet in front of me. My dream come true. This is the guy that I saw on tv; that I heard on the tapes, and that I admire. I remember all of the times watching him on tv and watching his hands on those keys and I could see them right there!!!! What a feeling!!!!! Man!!!! He would get done and would give me a high five, or wink, smile and even shook my hand. I can't believe it! I still can't! He signed my program, and I am still in awe by his playing. I always knew that Live was better on the CD's but it's amazing in real life! That's my story! What an amazing one it is too!
